We've been working with the school to update their Coat of Arms. Pocklington School has just celebrated its 500th birthday and whilst the Coat of Arms - originally bestowed by the Dolman family in 1514 – has evolved over the centuries, it had never been looked at in terms of working in the digital age.
It was important not to change the Coat of Arms but to take each individual element within the design and explore different ways to improve its overall clarity, especially at smaller sizes. We undertook a comprehensive exercise in reworking each element, from the colour hues to the symmetry of the mantling and the balance of lettering within the banners.
With a wide range of applications to manage, we also looked at creating a simplified outline version to work as an endorsement to the new School identity, as well as a way to get the updated Coat of Arms into the School environment.
